Note 04 - Fall Transition

Paris in Autumn

Fall is always the season I look forward to the most. The leaves turn into vibrant shades of red, orange and yellow, the mornings feel fresh and crisp, and I have the perfect excuse to stay in. I’m excited for long walks under colourful trees blasting The Life of a Showgirl in my ears (currently loving the track The Fate of Ophelia if there are any other Taylor Swift fans in the room), and transitioning into my fall wardrobe.

Fashion becomes all about textures and warmth - with lots of wool, leather, and suede - something I crave after the intense heat and humidity of Montreal summers. I know I’ll be wearing a combination of knits and trench coats almost exclusively.

Bundle up and start your kettle; this will be a cozy post all about comforting moments and autumn fashion.

What I wore this week

Tip toeing into fall

It was one of those rare fall nights where the air is crisp, but you can still get away with wearing a skirt without tights. And if you live in Canada, you know how precious these moments are. I also wanted to challenge myself and style my oversized Frankie Shop blazer, which I don’t wear nearly enough. I paired it with a vintage mini skirt, one of my Intimissimi cashmere tops, simple black flats from Aeyde, and finished the look with bold hoop earrings.

Everyday delights

Le Labo, Thé Noir 29 - Liverpool House & their Lobster pasta - By Malene Birger Micella Boots

Quite a few things have brought me joy as the days turn colder: I’ve been more and more for my Thé Noir 29 perfume from Le Labo. I picked it up in Stockholm over the summer and had the label personalized, so every time I wear it, it feels like carrying a small memory from that trip with me. It smells like a luxurious hotel lobby mixed with fresh flowers and it lingers beautifully on the skin as the day goes on.

My work bestie was recently in town for a conference, so after our day wrapped up, we met up at Liverpool House for dinner. We sat by the fireplace on the terrace and had their incredible lobster pasta. It was one of those simple, perfect, cozy nights that I would want to have again and again. If you’re ever in the city, it’s one of the spots I recommend along with Vin Papillon, from the same owners.

And of course, boot season is officially here. The pair I’m most excited to take down from storage are my By Malene Birger Micella boots (yes, I know, I can’t stop talking about this brand). I love the pointed toe and the little kitten heel. They’re also very similar to a cult Totême pair, the only difference being the zip detail over the elasticated panel. They look so chic with straight-leg jeans, and the best part is they’re actually walkable. I did a few 20K-step days in them last year, and they never let me down.

This Week’s Edit

Exit Lane, Erika Veurink

Exit Lane by Erika Veurink is a recent read I couldn’t put down. It’s published by 831 Stories, a fairly new publishing house that focuses exclusively on short romance novels (around 200 pages each). This one is a will-they-won’t-they romance that moves between Iowa, New York, and Copenhagen. The chemistry between the characters was so vivid, I kept picturing the whole thing as a film! Definitely one you should read this fall if you’re in a reading rut.

Pluck’s Earl Grey Cream tea

My all-time favourite tea comes from a small Ontario-based brand. I love the touch of cornflower petals and its naturally creamy taste. My go-to way of making it is with a pinch of cardamom powder and plenty of Oatly. Bonus points if you drink it from your favourite mug. There’s really nothing a good cuppa can’t fix, and it always makes my mornings so much better and energizes me during my afternoon slumps.

Camille Charrière on Shameless Podcast

I really miss the golden days of fashion blogging, when I’d check Bloglovin’ daily to catch up on the latest posts from my favourite bloggers around the world. One of the ones I loved most was Camille Charrière. Her West London life felt so chic. It eventually, indirectly, led me to live in West London. In this interview with Shameless podcast, she opens up about how her career in fashion began, how it’s evolved over the years, and her IVF journey, all of which will also be explored in her upcoming memoir.

Kelly Rutherford’s elevator selfies for style inspiration

Kelly Rutherford remains an enduring style icon, ever since her Gossip Girl days. I love following her on Instagram for her elevator selfies; they provide endless inspiration. Like me, she has a soft spot for the Danish brand By Malene Birger, but she also wears so many new labels that I end up discovering through her. She was recently featured on the Goop podcast, and I can’t wait to listen and soak up even more of her elegance.

Love, S.
