Note 10 - Sleeping

The bed at Ett Hem in Stockholm

I don’t know if it’s the grey November days settling in or that quiet lull before the Christmas rush, but I’ve been feeling a little bit more tired lately. There’s something about this time of year that slows the pace a bit, and finding that perfect night’s sleep has taken a bit of extra effort. I’ve been paying more attention to the rituals that help me unwind, and it’s reminded me how much those small comforts really matter.

This week’s post is dedicated to all things cozy: the softest, dreamiest sleepwear, along with some simple evening-routine habits that make it easier for me to relax and get a good night’s sleep. I’ve also included some dream-like pieces I’m currently coveting as well as reading recommendations for slow evenings.

If you’re also craving rest, warmth, and a gentler pace, I hope this is the soothing Sunday scroll you need. See you next week!

What I (Would Have Liked To Wear) This Week

Alexandra Dahlin

Whitney Port

Even though I didn’t wear anything particularly exciting this week, I’ve been daydreaming about these pearl pieces from By Malene Birger. I love the subtle shimmer of the pearls against the warm wool underneath. The first piece is technically a “hood,” but I love how Swedish creator Alexandra Dahlin styled it tied around her neck. It looks so chic and effortless. I also spotted Whitney Port wearing the dress version at New York Fashion Week (and if you’ve watched The Hills in the early 2000s, please tell me she also made you want to work in fashion). She layered it over a slip dress, and again, it was that perfect balance of elegance and everyday comfort.

These pieces are definitely on the pricier side, but I’m hoping to track them down on sale or secondhand over time! A girl can dream right?

The Sleepwear Edit

Striped Pyjama - H&M / Swam Pyjama - Boden / Cashmere socks - Boden / Ear plugs - Loop / Flower printed pyjama - Brandy Melville / Eye mask - Slip / Pink and red Paris pyjama - Roller Rabit x Lilly Sisto / Deep Sleep Pillow Spray, This Works / Blue pyjama - Desmond & Dempsey / Slippers - Ugg Tasmans

Speaking of dreams, this week is all about sleepwear and the little things that help me get the best sleep ever. Lately, I have been focusing on creating a more intentional evening routine. It’s nothing complicated, just a few simple practices that make the end of the day feel softer. I like to start with a cup of tea, either chamomile or my current favourite, the Gingerbread Spice blend from Pluck. After that, I move on to my skincare routine, take a few minutes for a short meditation on Headspace, and always end the evening by reading a few pages of my book.

When it comes to pyjamas, I’m a devoted fan of a classic long-sleeve shirt-and-pants set, especially the traditional cotton styles with blue stripes (H&M has some great poplin versions). I also think a blue pair with red piping is so chic. Paired with cashmere socks or my Ugg slippers, it’s the perfect Sunday-morning outfit.

I also have a soft spot for printed pyjamas. I recently got this swan-print set from Boden for winter, and the brushed cotton is so warm and luxurious. If you prefer something lighter, Lilly Sisto’s new collaboration with Roller Rabbit includes a beautiful pink-and-red, Paris-inspired set. In summer, I switch things up, and my everyday favourites are the Brandy Melville sets. They’re unbelievably soft and feminine.

When it comes to sleep essentials, mine are: a good silk eye mask (Slip makes amazing ones), Loop earplugs, and a relaxing pillow spray. Perfect sleep unlocked.

Everyday Delights

Róhe Baggy Fit Jeans

The snow in Old Montreal

Making a photo album on Papier

I was recently in the Laurier area for a facial (I’ll share all the details in next week’s ‘beauty’ post), and since I arrived a bit early, I popped into the secondhand shop Ruse next door. They’ve just renovated the entire space, and I was happy to find more contemporary brands mixed in. I ended up scoring a pair of jeans from the Amsterdam-based brand Róhe, and they fit perfectly. Secondhand is the best!

We also had a ton of snow this week, which instantly put me in the Christmas mood. It looks lovely in the Old Port, with the old buildings as a backdrop. I really hope it sticks around so we can have a white Christmas.

Every year, I also have a tradition of making a photo album of my year on Papier. Having a physical version of my memories feels so special, and I regularly flip through the books I’ve made in past years. Since it’s always a bit of a process to sort through all the photos, I’ve already started working on this year’s and will keep editing it until it’s perfect by the end of December.

This Week’s Edit

Time to Rise, Helene Holmström

I recently finished Dancing in the Dark, the second book in Helene Holmström’s series, and it instantly brought back the cozy feeling I had when I first read Time to Rise. I wanted to recommend it as this time of year feels perfect for something heartwarming and charming. Set in a small Swedish village, it follows a struggling bakery and weaves together themes of love, perseverance, and community. Perfect if you’re looking for a light Christmassy read.

Apollo, State of the Art Cooking and a Party, Frederik Bille Brahe

Frederik Bille Brahe, the celebrated Copenhagen chef behind Atelier September, has released a new cookbook with Apartamento. This time, it’s all about his other beloved spot, Apollo Bar. I had the chance to visit Apollo with my friend Martine during one of our trips to Copenhagen, and it truly felt like a dream. I still remember the delicious ceviche I had, featuring local strawberries and fresh herbs (yum!). The book is filled with beautiful photos of the restaurant, so it’s a perfect addition to any coffee table.

Rhode Jelly Bean Peptide Lip Tint

I’ve loved the Rhode Peptide Lip Treatment since the first time I tried it, but my sister recently inspired me to try the tinted version in the shade Jelly Bean. It’s a shimmering pink that feels more like a gloss while still being hydrating. I’ve been obsessed with how it both looks and feels on my lips and have brought it everywhere with me recently!

Antoinette, Valérie Chevalier (French)

Another book recommendation, this time in French! Valérie Chevalier is one of my favourite local authors. She is a gifted writer, especially skilled at capturing emotions and giving us a full, nuanced picture of her characters. This book is a little hard to describe, but it follows a woman named Antoinette who feels she is not enough for the name she was given (certainly not like the Archduchess Marie-Antoinette). It is a tender exploration of female friendships, self-acceptance, and the beautiful, messy complexities of being yourself.

Love, S.
