Note 06 - The Lisbon Postcard

Happy Sunday!

Last week, I shared all about my relaxing getaway in the Portuguese countryside, and this week wraps up my trip with a recap of my two days in Lisbon. It was short and sweet, but I was lucky enough to meet up with one of my long-distance besties, Martine, who happened to be in town at the same time.

Having long-distance friends is such a mix of joy and heartache. It’s hard to miss out on the everyday moments, and I wish I could just invite them over for a cup of tea on a random Sunday afternoon. But when we do reunite, it’s always in the most memorable places, and the time together feels extra special. I never take it for granted, and I have the best memories.

So on glorious Sunday, we met up in the afternoon at a cozy café, spent the day catching up while hiking Lisbon’s hills, soaking in the views, and eventually settling down in the cutest little wine bar before heading to dinner. It was the perfect day.

What I Wore This Week

Rodebjer dress

Mango jacket, Aritzia top, Filippa K jeans

The temperature fluctuated quite a bit over the two days I spent in Lisbon. On the day I met up with Martine, it was warm and sunny, so I reached for my Cecilie Bahnsen tank top, a beautifully sculptural piece with an open back. To keep things casual and comfortable for a full day of walking, I dressed it down with white shorts and my trusty New Balance sneakers.

The next day I spent in Lisbon was cooler, so I wore one of my favourite secondhand finds: a broderie anglaise dress with long puffed sleeves from Rodebjer. Later, when the evening chill set in, I changed into something cozier for dinner: my Mango leather jacket, Filippa K jeans, and an Aritzia blouse.

I wish I had had more time to learn more about local fashion brands and see how locals dressed but this will be for another time!

Everyday Delights

Two of my favourite addresses while in Lisbon…

Magnolia Wine Bar

This was the wine bar we stopped at before dinner with Martine. A cozy little spot on the corner of the street, perfect for an apéro. I loved everything about it: the fresco on the ceiling, the dark wooden shelves lined with wine bottles, and the flowers scattered everywhere. I had a fresh glass of orange wine that tasted incredible. While we were there, I also spotted the most stylish woman wearing a Frankie shop blazer and suede loafers, and it gave me so much fashion inspiration!

Do Beco Santos

On our last day, we had breakfast at Do Beco in the Santos area, and let me tell you, this place was such a favourite! They had everything I love: artisan pastries (including cardamom buns), gorgeous interiors featuring tiled tables, bouquets of pastel anthuriums and the most beautiful brick arches curving around the ceiling. We ordered the folded eggs, and they were so creamy and delicious. I saw a few people working on their laptops and I could imagine myself doing the same and blogging in this beautiful café on a quiet morning.

This Week’s Edit

Watch

Martine’s YouTube Channel

I can’t talk about my friend Martine without mentioning her YouTube channel. She creates the coziest vlogs from her charming home in England or wherever her travels take her. Her videos feel like a cup of tea on a rainy afternoon: calm, comforting, and beautifully edited. She filmed our day in Lisbon, so you can watch it here in her latest vlog.

Read

City of Girls, Elizabeth Gilbert

I started this book on my way back home from Portugal and couldn’t put it down. I was initially drawn to it for the showgirl element (yes, another Taylor Swift connection). The story is a glittering, witty page-turner set in New York City in the 1940s, before, during and after the war. It follows a young woman from a “good family” who drops out of school and moves in with her aunt, the owner of a quirky downtown theatre. It’s a coming-of-age tale full of glamour, heart, and history, and above all, a celebration of women finding their own path.

Buy

San Pi Ceramics

The house we stayed in while in Comporta was filled with pieces from San Pi Ceramics that were beautifully crafted in soft tones of beige, pink, and blue. Their work has such an understated elegance. I’d love to visit their shop in Lisbon next time and bring home a few pieces.

Wear

Totême Denim Jacket

Probably my most-worn item while travelling. It’s light enough for sunny afternoons, warm enough for breezy evenings, and it goes with absolutely everything. Mine is from Totême, with a timeless cut that makes even the simplest outfit feel pulled together. I especially love it over all an-white outfit like the one I’m wearing in the first picture of this post.

Love, S.
