Note 28 - The Spring Edit
Spring day in Hamburg
Happy Sunday!
I’m writing from Montreal, where my hopes for spring disappeared the moment my plane landed…but my mindset is still firmly in spring mode. So, I’m sharing a little recap of my last few days in Hamburg, along with some seasonal fashion inspiration. Hint: trenches are taking center stage!
This week, I’m heading to Toronto. It’s been a while since my last visit, and I’m hoping to finally feel a bit of spring there. I’ll be in the city for the long weekend, making the most of it, especially since it’s one of my last trips there before I move abroad. If you have any recommendations I should check out, let me know on Instagram at @effortlessedited.
What I Wore This Week
This is the outfit I wore for my last day of class in Hamburg. A blazer-blouse from StyleIn made from a fluid fabric but structured at the waist for a curved, almost peplum-like effect. I love how elevated it looks, but then paired with a classic pair of blue jeans, it’s the right balance of casual and chic.

The Trench Edit
AF Agger trench
By Malene Birger Trench
When I think of spring, the first outfit that comes to mind always includes a trench coat. It feels effortlessly cool and is a great way to add personality to any look. It’s also the perfect layering piece for this in-between season. It’s light enough to throw over an outfit without feeling bulky, but still offering just the right amount of warmth. I love how it pulls every look together, whether it’s layered over a simple outfit or worn as the pièce de résistance. It adds structure, movement and an element of interest.
Over time, I’ve built a small collection, and each piece has its own distinctive twist, whether it’s in the cut, colour, or details. My favourite is my AF Agger trench: a classic oversized silhouette that looks just as good worn open as it does fully closed. The oversized front pocket and asymmetric closure give it just the right amount of edge. I also love the By Malene Birger one I found secondhand, with a uniquely shaped leather collar that makes it feel a bit unexpected.
Lately, shorter trench styles have been having a moment. As I mentioned in my previous post, I found a Charlior one in Hamburg that I couldn’t resist. The tie detail at the neck is really cute, and it’s actually a hood! I also have a navy GANNI trench that leans more playful. It’s maybe a bit less aligned with my style now, but it’s still such a standout piece.
And finally, there’s my Uniqlo U one: Timeless and wearable with classic elements like the belt, oversized lapels, and longer hem.

Treppenviertel
A day in Blankenese felt like the perfect welcome to spring, and a beautiful way to spend my last day in Hamburg. Just outside the city, this charming neighbourhood is known for its winding paths and the 5,000 steps that lead down to the Elbe River. The houses are tucked into the hills, giving the whole area a cozy feel.
I found a small café, sat outside with a tea and a pastry, and spent some time people-watching. It was a calming moment and definitely the highlight of my week.

This Week’s Edit
The Truth About Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy’s Style (It’s Not the Clothes) on Let’s Get Dressed Podcast
I listened to this episode while driving this week, and it turned out to be such an interesting take on what personal style really is, analyzed through the lens of Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy’s wardrobe. The guest, contributing editor at Marie Claire, Larissa Mills, argued that the real lesson behind her style wasn’t about the clothes themselves, but about discernment. Carolyn carefully edited her wardrobe, repeated pieces, and stayed consistent, rather than constantly chasing newness or trends. She stayed true to herself, even in her choice to wear minimal makeup and jewelry. A good listen and a reminder that great style isn’t about having more, it’s about choosing better!
The newly opened Pilatika West Island
Without even realizing it, one of the things I missed most about Montreal was the fitness scene. While I enjoyed the classes in Germany, they felt a bit lighter, and honestly, that intensity is something North America does really well. So I was really excited to get back to some of my favourite classes and instructors (because that’s ultimately what drives my choices these days). I tend to bounce between studios, following the instructors I love. Which led me to the newly opened Pilatika in the West Island. While it was a bit of a drive, the class was amazing, and the new studio was beautiful. It felt good to get back into my rhythm.
The Aritzia spring launch event
I thought the event Aritzia hosted this week at Cove NY was a true masterclass in marketing and trend storytelling. They invited press and influencers into a beautifully curated, spring market–inspired setting that felt both immersive and perfectly on-brand. Everything from the styling to the atmosphere captured the season's fresh, invigorating energy, and it looked really elevated, positioning them in the higher-end spectrum of the high street. This differentiation is what brought me back to Aritzia last year after not shopping there for a few years.
The CEO to Influencer Pipeline on Puck
I found this article on Puck genuinely fascinating. It took me back to my time at Net-A-Porter, when I really looked up to Alison Loehnis, the former CEO. From her impeccable style to her remarkable career, she had a presence that felt both aspirational and approachable. I still remember her opening the door to her chic office on Halloween, handing out candy and taking the time to chat with employees. It was a small gesture, but it left a lasting impression. She’s long been a style inspiration to me, so seeing her evolution into one of the most successful creators on ShopMy has been especially exciting to watch.
Love, S.
