Note 36 - Three-Word Method

Happy Sunday!

Lately, the weeks have been blurring together. Between friends visiting, a last-minute trip to New York (more on that next Sunday!), and the ongoing chaos of moving preparations. Time feels like it’s moving incredibly fast, and while I’ve been craving a sense of routine, I know this season is temporary. Soon, I’ll be settling into an entirely new rhythm in a new city.

But for today, this post is all about personal style lessons and a few more Montreal recommendations. Grab a cup of tea and settle in. I hope you enjoy!

What I Wore This Week

I really feel like I’m in a good place with my personal style right now. I know which colours suit me, the silhouettes I naturally gravitate toward, and the kinds of outfits I genuinely enjoy wearing. There’s finally a sense of consistency: a clear thread running through everything I put on.

If I had to define my style in three words, they would be: Effortless (practical), Scandi (aspirational), and Feminine (emotional). It’s a framework created by the stylist Allison Bornstein to help people better understand their personal style, and I think these outfits capture those ideas perfectly.

Effortless is my practical word. The pieces I reach for most often are the ones that make getting dressed feel easy: a simple dress, a trench coat, jeans and a T-shirt. I love outfit combinations that feel uncomplicated and intuitive. Essentially, things I can throw on without overthinking, but still feel good in.

For my aspirational word, I’m endlessly inspired by Scandi style, especially Stockholm girls, who always seem polished and timeless while still incorporating something unexpected: an oversized collar, an elongated hemline, or a bag with a structured, unusual shape. I think you can see that influence in my wardrobe, especially in the trench coats I wear. They’re classic pieces, but with a subtle twist.

And finally, Feminine is my emotional word. When I get dressed, I want to feel soft and feminine. You can see it in the ballet flats I always come back to, the curved shapes of my bags and collars, and even in the jewelry I choose.

If you’re interested in figuring out what your three words are, I recommend this video, which explains it well.

Everyday Delights

Now back to my week…

Having a friend visiting town gave me the perfect excuse to play tourist in my own city again. So it felt only right for this Everyday Delights section to serve as Part II of my Montreal guide (find Part I here). Here are a few more spots I love around the city and would wholeheartedly recommend if you’re visiting. Otherwise, let this inspire you to become a tourist in your own city and romanticize your local spots!

Martine also vlogged the day, you can find it here.

Le Violon

Le Violon

Le Violon

Le Violon has been on my Montreal bucket list for ages, and after finally going, I only wish I hadn’t waited so long. It was easily one of the best meals I’ve had in the city. Tucked away on a quiet residential street, the restaurant felt especially magical on a rainy Wednesday night, with the trees finally full of leaves and the soft sound of rain setting the coziest atmosphere.

The space is beautifully designed, the service is seamless, and the food feels unlike anything else I’ve had before. Yet somehow the whole experience still feels warm, relaxed, and completely unpretentious.

The standouts for me were the egg bread with ramp butter, the cappellacci with scallops, and the pork with two sauces. Every dish was incredible.

Au Coin Fairmont

Au Coin Fairmont

I mentioned Au Coin Fairmount in my last post, but didn’t have any photos. I went back with Martine for breakfast, and it instantly reminded me why I love this place so much. It’s the kind of spot you can drop into at any hour of the day, whether it’s for breakfast, a late drink, or dinner, and it always feels inviting. The food is consistently great, the atmosphere is warm and lively without trying too hard, and it’s exactly what I imagine when I think of the perfect neighbourhood spot.

I’m especially fond of their classic breakfast plate, inspired by Copenhagen-style breakfasts: sourdough bread, soft scrambled eggs, Louis d’Or cheese, ham, jam, and whipped butter. Simple, comforting, and somehow perfect every single time.

St-Henri Bookshop

Walks in the old port

Arthur’s

A few other highlights from the week included wandering through independent bookshops (I especially love Librairie St-Henri), slow walks in the sun in the Old Port, and breakfast at Arthur’s in St-Henri. All simple moments, but exactly the kind that make Montreal feel special, and very much places I’d recommend if you’re visiting.

This Week’s Edit

Merit Pointelle Tinted Lip Oil

A new lip gloss in my rotation that’s the perfect shade of light pink and just accentuates the lips with a beautiful sheen! I’m growing to love Merit more and more.

Smaka Bakery on Instagram

My feed is currently nothing but Princess cakes ( the classic Swedish prinsesstårta), and I’m not mad about it. It’s not usually a dessert I gravitate toward flavour-wise, but visually? They’re absolutely stunning. A big reason is Smaka Bakery, a small NYC-based creator whose cakes keep taking over my Instagram feed. Every single one is so beautifully made that I keep convincing myself I could make something that pretty too… which is a complete lie, but still.

Margo’s Got Money Troubles on Apple TV

I’ve been watching the TV adaptation of the book Margo’s Got Money Troubles, and it’s exactly what I needed: a light, funny show with great acting (I just love Elle Fanning). I’m so tempted to read the book next.

Lucy’s Book Club on Instagram

Another Instagram recommendation! This time, a book filled with amazing recommendations and commentary. If you like reading the same kinds of books as I do (aka literary and modern fiction), this will be for you.

Love, S.
