Note 38 - Swan Lake & Soft Goodbyes

Copenhagen at dawn (and how fitting because the Swan is the national symbol of Denmark)

Swans often represent bittersweetness, and going to see Swan Lake at the ballet last week felt like a fitting reflection of where I am in my life right now: something beautiful yet emotional is happening, slightly melancholic, and tied to change and endings. I’m happy to be leaving Montréal, I’ve dreamed about moving to Europe for years after all, but saying goodbye is never easy. It’s a mix of excitement for the new life ahead, but also a little bit of sadness for the people (and the Pilates studios, ah!) I’m leaving behind.

Join me for an evening at the ballet & for some last goodbyes in the city!

What I Wore This Week

Dress - Doên / Sunglasses - Prada / Bag - Aesther Ekme / Flats - Aeyde

Dress - Ulla Johnson / Bag - ATP Atelier

Top - Aritzia

A mix of outfits for different occasions!

Look 1 is what I wore for a day of errands in the city. The weather had started to warm up, so as usual when it does, I reach for light, breezy dresses. This gingham dress is a summer favourite of mine, and I love its soft pastel palette. I paired it with round sunglasses for a touch of whimsy and finished the look with classic black accessories.

Look 2 is what I wore to the ballet. I felt incredibly feminine in this Ulla Johnson dress. It’s a true showstopper. From its sculptural silhouette and beautiful blue hue to its dramatic puff sleeves, every detail feels special. I completed the outfit with a feather-trimmed ATP Atelier bag for a nod to the performance.

Look 3, a more casual look for a night out with my friend Emily. It was our last get-together before my move, and we spent the evening enjoying oysters at one of our favourite restaurants in the city, Liverpool House. I wore a cream halterneck top from Aritzia and some white jeans.

Watching Le Lac, a modern adaptation of Swan Lake

Dressed for the ballet

Bike tour

Swan Lake is my all-time favourite ballet. Having done ballet for nearly 15 years, I’ve always been captivated by Tchaikovsky’s pieces. Last year for my birthday, I received tickets to a new adaptation by the Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, and I was excited to experience a contemporary interpretation of such a beloved classic. The combination of the live orchestra, the dancers’ grace, and their chemistry was a really beautiful experience.

Alongside seeing friends and saying my goodbyes, I’ve been making a point of enjoying my neighbourhood while I still can and working through a pre-move bucket list: from going for a bike ride in a nearby park to finally trying some local restaurants that I’ve walked by so many times. Just two weeks to go!

This Week’s Edit

Whistler, Ann Patchett

Ann Patchett has a remarkable ability to write stories that feel destined to become modern classics, and her latest release completely captivated me. I devoured it over the course of two days, but also wanted to savour every page. It explores family dynamics, the weight of the past, the choices we make, and their impact on our lives. Absolutely pick this up!

Totême’s Archipelago Campaign

If you’re a frequent reader of this blog, you’re not a stranger to my love for Scandinavia and the Swedish summer. Totême’s latest Archipelago campaign, photographed by Mikael Jansson, captures everything I find so enchanting about a Swedish summer. From the rocky coastline to the effortless styling, it feels like a visual representation of my ideal summer day.

Aganju Travels

I recently discovered Aganju Travels on Instagram and quickly fell down a rabbit hole exploring their travel guides. I spent hours reading through them, and thought their recommendations felt genuinely thoughtful and aligned with the site's aesthetic and brand. I’m especially excited to try some of the suggestions from their Fontainebleau and Lofoten guides.

Hit the Wall, Gracie Abrams

A song that has been on repeat for me lately. There’s something about Gracie Abrams’ music that’s tied to summer for me. I’m also counting down the days until her new album is released and looking forward to seeing her live in Paris next year.

Love, S.
