Note 41 - Rest & Relaxation in Bavaria & Tirol

Austrian village

Happy Sunday!

I’m so happy to be back on the blog! As you’re reading this, I’ll have arrived at my new apartment in France, just outside Paris.

I spent the past two weeks resting and recharging in Germany and Austria after months of planning. Looking back, I don’t think I realized just how much it had all taken out of me, both physically and emotionally. So I made the most of the blue skies, summer heat, and fresh lakes, and I finally feel refreshed and ready for this next chapter.

The thought of settling into a new routine is so exciting. I can’t wait for my daily commute, meeting my new colleagues, and soaking in a completely new environment while documenting it here. But first, here’s everything I got up to over the past two weeks.

What I Wore This Week

Dress - Doên / Sunglasses - Céline

Dress - Doên / Sunglasses - Céline / Sandals - Emme Parsons

Top - Lulu Lemon / Shorts - Helly Hansen / Boots - Helly Hansen / Backpack - McKinley

Over the past two weeks, I mostly lived in sportswear and breezy dresses to survive the heatwave. Doên is always my go-to for effortless and feminine dresses in summer. Over my time here I’ve also spent time browsing Vinted and saw there are so many secondhand Doên pieces are available. If you've been eyeing the brand but don't want to splurge, it's definitely worth checking out.

While in Austria, I went on two hikes and naturally that was a bit of a different vibe looks wise. I decided to invest in good gear last year so I'd be comfortable while still feeling put together, and it's been so worth it. I'm still obsessed with my muted green Helly Hansen boots and matching shorts, which pair perfectly with the backpack I picked up at a sports shop in Austria last year. I completed the look with a breathable Lululemon top that was perfect to keep me cool while protecting my shoulders from the sun.

Everyday Delights

Possenhofen, where Sissi grew up

Lake swims!

Evening at the Biergarten

Turquoise water and perfect weather!

There have been so many highlights over the past couple of weeks that it's impossible to narrow them down to just three, so here's a little recap of the moments that have brought me the most joy.

Bavaria

One place that had been high on my list was Possenhofen, where Empress Sissi grew up. I've always been fascinated by her life, and after watching The Empress on Netflix and reading The Reluctant Empress, I couldn't miss the chance to visit the place where she spent her childhood. The castle itself isn't very accessible as it's now privately owned, but it's set right on the shores of Lake Starnberg so you can sit down by the water and enjoy the beautiful views of the alps in the distance and the castle behind you.

Another highlight has simply been spending time by the lake. The water in this region is unbelievably clear, giving it the most beautiful shades of blue. During the heatwave, there really wasn't a better place to be.

Hiking day

Austria

This was my second time experiencing Austria in the summer. I usually associate it with cosy winter days, but it's just as magical in the warmer months. This trip was all about being outdoors. We went on two hikes, enjoyed plenty of local delicacies, and also made time for swimming.

One of the hikes was especially meaningful. I had attempted it on my first trip here two years ago and was determined to make it to the top this time. I made it much further than before, but once we reached the more alpine section, with its narrow paths, stronger winds and lower hanging clouds, my vertigo kicked in and I made the decision to go back down. While I didn't reach the summit, I was still proud of how far I'd made it. One of my favourite parts was watching the scenery transform as you gain altitude.

Another highlight was choosing a Dirndl, a birthday present from my boyfriend. It felt really special to wear a piece that celebrates his heritage. We visited a traditional shop, and although I went in thinking I wanted navy, I fell for a jacquard design instead. It’s woven with delicate florals in shades of sage green and steel blue against a cream background and has the sweetest little blue heart charm on the zip. I paired it with a delicate poplin blouse with a lace trim. I can't wait to wear it on my next visit!

This Week’s Edit

The Heir Apparent, Rebecca Armitage

Vacations are made for page-turners, and this was exactly that. I first heard about The Heir Apparent on the Shameless podcast and immediately added it to my list. I’m always drawn to anything involving rom-com energy and royal family drama. This was a fresh, modern take on royal life, and I missed reading it once it was finished; I wanted more!

Hunza G Pamela Swimsuit in Cornflower Blue

My new go-to for lake swims. I love the bright pastel shade and the signature crinkled fabric. It’s incredibly flattering and so easy to wear. I had heard for a while that Hunza G swimsuits were unbeatable, and now I understand the hype.

Butter Yellow Havaianas

Another staple for days by the lake. The soft butter-yellow is one of my favourite colours, and they’re super comfortable for walking around between swims. I’ve also been seeing those clear jelly water shoes everywhere lately, and I’m very tempted to get a pair for protecting my feet from rocks and hot surfaces.

Dolly All The Time, Annabel Monagham

Another page turner I read over the holidays! This one is set in a coastal town near Boston and is a bit of a take on Pretty Woman. I loved it!

Love S.
