Note 55 - Paris Days

Blurry Paris

Happy Sunday!

The leaves are finally turning orange and red in France, so I’m feeling very cozy and autumnal, but I’m also approaching the part of the year when I usually have a little bit less energy. Today’s post is all about what I got up to when my family visited, so it's a lot of touristy stuff, but it helped me romanticize the city a little more and really enjoy it. Now I’m ready for a quieter period and a bit more time for routine and self-care.

Hope you enjoy, and I’ll see you next weekend with my postcard from Vienna!

What I Wore This Week

The perfect trench

One of my best secondhand finds is this Totême Pisa trench, which has been on my ‘to find’ list for so long, and I finally got my hands on it earlier this summer. It shows that sometimes you have to be patient to find the pieces on your wish list. I kept seeing it in classic tan, but I wanted a black trench coat as an option, and it’s proven so versatile. I wore it over my polka dot dress for a night at the Opera (and fyi my polka dot dress is back in the Baum und Pferdgarten archive sale).

Everyday Delights

Fontainebleau Castle

Ballet night at Palais Garnier

I absolutely love a night at the ballet, and seeing one at the Palais Garnier was even more special. The building itself is iconic, and as someone who grew up doing ballet, sitting beneath that famous ceiling felt like a childhood dream come true. I saw L’Histoire de Manon, a story I didn’t know before, and I was completely swept up in it. Manon is charming, adventurous and impulsive, a young woman torn between love and the lure of wealth, and watching her choices unfold was both captivating and heartbreaking. If you’re into ballet and want a taste of the Paris opera, I recommend reading City of Night Birds.

My family and I also took the time to visit the inside of the Fontainebleau gardens. By now, I had been to the gardens quite a few times and walked past them countless times, but the inside was just as beautiful and much quieter than Versailles; I highly recommend it.

La Papote Restaurant

La Papote Restaurant

One of the main highlights was visiting the restaurant La Papote, which had been on my list for a while. It’s located in the cute village of Bourron-Marlotte, and the restaurant has two distinct dining rooms (the fireplace room and the library), a beautiful courtyard, and 2 Airbnb rooms. I loved the decor; it felt so cozy and heartwarming, and the food was absolutely delicious. I am also hoping to try the bakery by the same owners, Maison petite soeur.

And finally, my highlight: sisterhood. It’s hard to explain to anyone who doesn’t have a sister, but it’s a bond like no other, and it leaves me feeling so fulfilled. I’ve found something close to it with a dear friend who feels like family, yet sharing the same blood feels different. One of my sisters came to spend a week with me in Paris, and reconnecting with her in person was so energizing and powerful. My highlight was seeing the Eiffel tower glitter with her and a lunch at Café de Flore, very Gossip Girl coded!

This Week’s Edit

Black Coffee and Red Lipstick, Notes on Living by Alexandra Shulman

Ex-editor-in-chief of Vogue UK Alexandra Shulman has released a new collection of essays, and it was a pleasure to read. She writes about fashion, life, love, and so much more, and it's the perfect light read for fall. I loved her essay on glamour.

Arket Pink Nylon Bag

Perhaps a ‘dupe’ for my Aritzia nylon bag I carry everywhere, but Arket released a baby pink bag that's so adorable and perfect. I cannot wait to wear it with white and cream outfits.

Stairmaster routine

I never thought the StairMaster would be part of my favourites, but it’s a new discovery I’ve been enjoying. For now, I’ll stick to the 25-7-2 routine: 25 minutes, level 7, twice a week. I’ve mostly prioritized Pilates, and while heated mat classes get my heart rate up, I wanted to work on my level 2 cardio.

The Nordic Bun Book

I saw this book on my Instagram For You page, and it has the prettiest cover! This publishing house seems to do a lot of beautiful lifestyle and recipe books, and they’d make the perfect Christmas gifts.

Love, S.
