Note 49 - Wellness Diary in Stockholm

Jacket - By Malene Birger / Trousers - By Malene Birger / Bag - Aritzia / Loafers - Flattered

I loved putting together a Wellness Diary during my time in NYC, so I thought I would do the same for Stockholm, especially since I've already shared my ultimate guide to the city. Honestly, Stockholm has everything you could want for wellness: incredible fitness studios, endless natural beauty nearby, delicious food, and so much more. It's walkable, and the water surrounding the city feels so calming. It's easily become my favourite city in the world, and every day I spent there left me feeling rested and like I was exactly where I needed to be. I felt more like myself, enjoyed the cooler weather, and just felt really happy.

So come with me on this weekend of wellness!

The best part about visiting now was the temperature difference from France: most days sat between 12–22 degrees, which is just perfect in my books. I loved being able to wear more knits and jackets again, rewearing some of my favourite pieces alongside a few newer ones. My outfit inspiration for the jackets was Lily Van Der Woodsen (or rather, the actress who played her, Kelly Rutherford). She's such an elegant woman, and I find that same quality is a common denominator among Swedish women: they're always so put together, in the most elevated, effortless way.

I also liked adding a bit of colour with my Reformation knit. It's a good reminder that colour theory really does play a role in how we dress, and that the right shades can be so much more flattering. On that note, I really need to get a colour analysis done. I'm hoping this Swedish book on colour theory by the founder of Mantle Skincare gets translated into English soon, I would love to read it.

Everyday Delights aka Wellness in Stockholm

To me, Stockholm feels like the destination for that effortless, put-together Scandi aesthetic. Women walk briskly between the gym and their next coffee, skin glowing, dressed in beautifully tailored pieces. Wellness here isn't a trend, it's rooted in Nordic principles: lagom, simplicity, and staying close to nature.

I built my days around four principles that, to me, capture what Stockholm wellness looks like: movement, nourishment, nature, and rest.

Burner Studio

GLOWING SKIN & STRONG BODY… THE SCANDI WAY

One morning started with an LPG facial massage at Heat by Sophia Lie, which left my skin looking so smooth and glowy. It's essentially a mechanical massage using a sculpting tool on the face, and the results were immediate. Over the weekend, I also squeezed in three classes, a mix of mat and reformer, at Burner Studios, easily one of my favourite studios and why I always go back when I’m in Stockholm. The workouts are intense, the mat rooms are heated, and I left every class feeling like I had earned my Fika. Along the way, I stocked up on a few Scandi skincare essentials from Mantle (a brand I already love) and Nott Nuit, which I discovered during the LPG facial.

The only thing missing from my weekend was a sauna and a swim, but that will be for another visit!

NORDIC FLAVOURS

I really love Scandinavian rituals around food. This time, I got to experience the Crayfish Party at Stockholm Stadshotell, a beloved Swedish tradition that happens every year, and such a fun, festive way to eat incredibly good-for-you seafood.

At lunchtime, I also added delicious salmon to my salads at Bröd & Salt (you can even add Nordic shrimp if you're craving more seafood), and while they were still in season, I couldn't resist eating plenty of sweet Swedish strawberries.

On one of the colder days, I treated myself to a warming bowl of porridge at Djurgårdsbrunn, one of the coziest cafés I visited. Porridge is such a staple in Swedish food culture and this one was delicious.

Bellevueparken

ARCHIPELAGO AIR & FOREST WALKS

One of the best parts of my time in Stockholm was reconnecting with nature. Most days I walked over 20,000 steps, and I made sure a good chunk of them were by the water, through parks, or near the forest. I love Stockholm's geology, the way big rocks appear across the city almost out of nowhere, it's such a unique feature and one I never get tired of. My favourite walks were early mornings at Bellevueparken, and at Djurgården for a more remote, wild feel. I also brought my journal along and sat down to write out my thoughts. It was so refreshing and really cleared my mind.

LAGOM LIVING

Lagom is a Swedish concept meaning "just the right amount," not too much and not too little, often used to describe a balanced, moderate approach to life. And that's exactly what I tried to do during this little break. I balanced out my days with time in the hotel room (which was so aesthetically pleasing, another thing I love about Scandinavia in general), using those quieter moments to catch up on my book or watch the latest season of Girls of Oslo. I knew that if I was out from morning to night, my body would eventually tire, so I listened to it and took breaks to recharge whenever I needed to.

And finally, because it really is all about balance, I also had one of the best nights dancing to Veronica Maggio at her Stockholm Stadium concert, surrounded by 30,000 people. It was my third time seeing her live, and there's something so magic about singing at the top of your lungs alongside thousands of people doing the exact same thing. The bonus was Håkan Hellström joining as a surprise guest (if you're familiar with Swedish music, you'll know just how big a deal that is).

This Week’s Edit

Novellix’s Swedish Midsummer Stories box

Novellix is a small Swedish publishing house that creates beautiful box sets of short stories, a few of which are translated into English, and their latest edition is all about Midsummer. I still have such fond memories of the year I celebrated Midsummer in Sweden, so I can't wait to dive into these.

Wellness City Guide: Stockholm on the Plant-Based Substack

A really good Substack packed with recommendations for anything wellness-related in the city.

11 days in Sweden on Charlotte’s Web’s Substack

I also loved this newsletter's design-focused take on Stockholm, with so many of my favourite recommendations, from hotels to restaurants, cafés, and more.

Nóttnuit Enzymatic Face Cleanser
Finally, I picked this up after trying it during my facial and I'm obsessed, the scent is lovely and what you could imagine a Swedish forest to smell like, and the exfoliating properties are so gentle. It's also a Nordic-based brand, which made it even more special to bring home.

Love, S.
